Sport for development is a complex and diverse phenomenon. Sport is important because it is a vital element in the health, happiness and wellbeing of people across all ages. The Faculty of Community and Health Sciences at the University of the Western Cape has accepted the challenge of ensuring that the importance of sport as a tool for development is highlighted in South Africa. The Faculty will thus be launching its “Interdisciplinary Centre of Excellence for Sport Science and
Development” early in December 2009.
